Earlier in 2013 the Highlands and Islands signed with BT, now the remaining parts of Scotland have signed up to a joint project with BT, BDUK, local authorities and the Scottish Government.

While there is there lots of pessimism about the superfast roll-out to the final third, at least Norfolk has started to deliver.

The big headlines have gone to the BDUK final third (rural) broadband projects, with super-connected cities scheme not delivering anything like the original expectation and now Birmingham is announcing details of its Wi-Fi roll-out.

The National Audit office is claiming the BDUK programme will run 22 months late and that BT will provide just 23% of the original projected funding.

Another piece of the broadband puzzle to improve speeds outside the commercial footprint is set to be filled in when Worcestershire County Council most likely signs with BT on 29th July.

The competition between TalkTalk, Sky and BT continues with TalkTalk starting another offer that runs until 24th July, where new ADSL2+ customers can sign up for the Plus TV service and get three broadband and six Sky channels free for 3 months.

While some BDUK projects are delivering results already, others are still in the consultation phase of the procurement process and Greater Manchester is one of those.

North Yorkshire was the area of the UK to announce the first cabinets deployed via a BDUK project and appears to be racing ahead with many thousands of homes now able to order a fibre service.

Another piece of the broadband puzzle that is the UK, where some say we are doomed and others are much more cheery is falling into place as another BDUK project goes to BT and improved services should appear for people.
