Usually the fibre products carry a minimum contract of 12 months, many times
it is 18 months but to attract the student population away from the traditional
student choice of Virgin Media, BT Retail is offering 9 month contracts on two
of its unlimited products.
BT Unlimited Infinity 1 (up to 38 Mbps downloads, 9 Mbps uploads) is
available for £20/month on a 9 month term (£30 activation and voice line
rental of £15.45 apply) or for those not in an area where an Openreach fibre
service is available there is the ADSL2+
service for £16/month which is unlimited too.
There are five prize packages up for grabs for those students who do buy the
service, each one worth more than £2000 and these include a nine month student
Unlimited BT Broadband and Unlimited Weekend Calls (or Unlimited BT Infinity if
available in the winner’s area) subscription, including all activation and
delivery charges, a Samsung PS43F4500 43” Plasma TV, a Samsung HT-F4500 Blu-Ray
Theatre System 5.1 (black), an Xbox 360 S Console 250Gb HDD, a Nikon Coolpix
S9050 Digital Camera (compact, 12.1 Megapixel, 15.5x optical zoom), four Apple
iPod Shuffles (4th Generation September 2012, 2Gb, Silver) and a £300.00
Sainsbury’s voucher
These offers are only available until 31st October 2013, for those who are
sport mad you will still get access to the BT Sport web and mobile apps, but if
you want to subscribe to a BT TV deal the minimum contract is still 12
months.
Go to our guide to student broadband deals to find discounts for other providers in your area.
Are these packages available to people who aren’t students, and what happens at the end of the 9 month contract?
I knew that question would appear, and had hoped BT would have replied in time to answer, but still waiting on an answer.

If you wish to keep the service after the minimum period you will be subject to the following charges from month 10, for Infinity 1 and Unlimited Weekend Calls or Unlimited Broadband £23 and Unlimited Weekend Calls £16 a month in addition to the monthly line rental charges.
That’s cut & paste, clearly needs some proof reading and editing as the non-offer prices quoted on the BT site look reversed.
something Virgin have been doing since late last year. Keep up BT ;0
@pcoventry76 – thought it was pretty clear it was to ‘keep up’ because they could see they lose business requiring longer minimum terms…
not much of an offer student option from virgin 22.50-30mb bb 27.50 -60mb bb 9 month contract normal terms require 30 days notice to cancel and if moving defered fees for 3months when taking another 9 month contract at another address
Confirmed only available to students.
We have added the Virgin student deals to their listings too
What I do not understand is why they make you buy a voice line… So change me half the line rental, but I dont want a phoneline from you. I will make my own arrangements there thanks…
> What I do not understand is why they make you buy a voice line
Line rental isn’t for calls but for supplying and maintaining the connection between you and the exchange.
I expect the answer will be officialy no, but if someone claims to be a student BT conveniantly wont do checks to verify that and just accept order 🙂
The official word on trying to short circuit the 12 months down to 9 months
“We ask for confirmation that they are a student and it’s covered in our T&Cs.”
^ Yep that’s why its called line rental, not voice line rental 🙂
KC in Hull has had a 9-month deal for Students for years, and their Fibre to the Home roll-out hits the Newland area near the university from September. None of this ‘up to’ lark – 100Mbps guaranteed. Happy days!
Guaranteed? On KC? I don’t think so.
