The YouView FreeView/IPTV hybrid is proving to be the box of choice for
broadband providers, with Jersey Telecom now making the 500GB version free for its
subscribers who are on a 16 Mbps or faster service. For those who record a lot
of TV, there is the option of the 1TB box for £49.
There does not appear to be any activation fee involved, and the monthly
broadband fees remain the same, a big advantage is that 20GB of extra usage allowance comes with the YouView box which is
enough for around 15 hours of on-demand/catch-up viewing.
Jersey Telecom is in the middle of converting its copper local loop to a
totally fibre local loop, and offers a 1 Gbps service (with 50GB allowance) for
£59.99 a month. While the usage limit is a little low, there are 8 hours of
unlimited usage available between midnight and 8am, so people can potentially
fill their YouView planner with on-demand content overnight.

The 12-8am thing has always worked for me. It works on PLusnet fibre and it would work on this too!
Sorry but you have not done your research right there is a “connection” fee of £50 for setting up and transferring – there is no unlimited broadband allbeit you do 60gb whenyou include the offer.It does seem very expensive when Sky offer complete unlimited fibre optic at £20 pm
^ They do unlimited business packages.
Also you can’t really compare it to Sky (or any other local LLU offering) because they actually have infrastructure to invest in.

The £50 fee is for the setup of the ADSL or fibre, so applies even to those who don’t take the YouView box.
As for the unlimited at bottom of product page “Usage is UNLIMITED during the hours of midnight and 8am.”
The fibre optic offered by Jersey Telecom on the island of Jersey is full fibre to the home.

It is doable, you just need to have a complete monopoly which gives guaranteed return on investment… which is what Jersey Telecom has.

I think just the unlimited overnight is very generous when you consider it’s a 1Gbps link (and probably symetrical? )
Sorry it’s 1000/100 but still amazing! that’s £10 more than people pay for lame VM!
@pcoventry76 Do you actually think people will be able to download at that rate? It is a contended service on a small island. Headline rates are just that.
I have no idea. I guess time will tell. There are less people to serve right?

@Given their gig service has a 100 Meg upload, that test is obviously not on a standard user connection, or test result is wrong
The standard speed test will not give the correct results. I think KC has just released one after working with ookla for their FTTH.

Very odd tester if when it gets it wrong, it gives an upload 2.5 faster than the product has.
All KC have done is host it on their network, and paid a little money for a few custom icons I think.

I’ll double check, last time I spoke with one of the people working on it, it needed some coding and alterations to the packet size. I’ll update you once I find out 🙂
Have had comms with Ookla around this as current speedtest doesn’t work for higher speed profiles. We have a beta version running of the new speedtest which does give the correct results for higher speed profiles. Promised to be launched sometime Q1 2013.
