RFS dates released 18th March 2004

After missing a week, BT Wholesale has released a list of almost 90 Ready For Service (RFS) dates. In an ideal world BT Wholesale would need to be releasing almost 90 RFS dates every week to keep
up with the rate exchanges are triggering at.

The majority of the RFS dates released this week are set for July 2004, but a few stretch right into 2005. There can be various reasons for why some exchanges have an RFS date so far away, often
the delays arise because some exchanges have no existing fibre cable available and therefore new cable must be laid.

In view of the delays that some exchanges are experiencing in terms of how long between triggering and release of the RFS date, Donna Young made the following statement on the BT Wholesale
broadband campaigners forum…

“Following my posting on Tuesday there’s been fair amount of feedback asking when we would be releasing more RFS dates.

I’m sorry you’ve had to wait over recent weeks. I want to assure you that we do take responsibility for what has happened and we are addressing the resource and systems issues to
deal with the backlog and avoid a repetition of the situation.

I’m pleased to say that today we can release 89 further dates which will be updated on the checker and websites shortly.

This won’t be all the dates you’re waiting for but the issues do differ from exchange to exchange and where the preliminary indications are very long lead times we are looking at
ways to better the dates before making them public.

Our teams are working to re-establish a regular flow of RFS dates being released and we’ll let you know soon when to expect updates – it should be a Thursday. We’ve also picked up
on your feedback that if for some reason we can’t release any dates on the expected day you’d like to know. If that is the case, and we will do all we can to avoid it happening,
we’ll tell you. “
