Technology consulting company Accenture has announced it has agreed to acquire Ookla from Ziff Davis group. The company is known for its Speedtest.net web-based speed test service but it has commercial arms that spread across network analytics, benchmarking and user experience monitoring. It also includes the Downdetector website.
Accenture’s driver is that networks are no longer background infrastructure; they are business platforms and if AI systems increasingly depend on low-latency, resilient connectivity, then the ability to measure, benchmark and predict network behaviour becomes commercially strategic.
“Modern networks have evolved from simple infrastructure into business-critical platforms. Without the ability to measure performance, organizations cannot optimize experience, revenue, or security. By acquiring Ookla, we will help our clients across business and government scale AI safely and build the trusted data foundations they need to deliver the reliable, seamless connectivity that creates value.”

The move also reflects a wider shift beyond telecoms into fraud detection in financial services across to other industries. Financial terms were not disclosed..
