I’ve been with Wessex Internet for about a year on Full Fibre 500. On paper, the service should be excellent, local full fibre with premium pricing. In reality, the experience hasn’t justified the cost. The biggest issue has been reliability and network performance. For over three months, during peak hours (roughly 8–10pm every evening), I experienced consistently high latency and packet loss to large parts of the internet, including major providers like Cloudflare and Microsoft. Latency regularly hit 80–100ms, making real-time applications and gaming pretty painful. Trying to get this taken seriously was exhausting. Customer support didn’t seem to understand the problem, and it took a huge amount of effort just to get acknowledgement that the issue existed. Communication throughout was poor, with slow responses and little transparency until it was eventually resolved months later. On top of that, the pricing feels extremely high compared to the wider UK fibre market. Even the “loyalty” renewal offers are structured around long lock-ins and stepped pricing, and there’s very little flexibility despite Wessex effectively being the only realistic fibre option in many rural areas. It’s hard not to feel like customers are being taken advantage of due to the lack of competition. I wanted to love Wessex Internet, and I’d happily pay a fair premium for great service and support. But after a year, the combination of performance issues, weak customer service, and above-market pricing makes it difficult to recommend.

Generally good speed and service, but connection has been lost twice recently due (they say) to a third party damaging a cable.

I was going to give Wessex Internet only one star for customer service because my recent problem was first handled by an extremely unpleasant and unhelpful person determined to make everything my fault. Fortunately, my next attempt to get help was solved by a person as different from the first as day from night, they couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful. So I’ve given a score of three starts. Companies should be aware that not all competent technicians are able to provide an acceptable customer interface.
