Starlink

Summary

Starlink, a division of SpaceX, is the original Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite operator, which has delivered a low-latency satellite service to many areas around the world, including the entire UK. To receive their service, all you need is a view of the sky and to be able to mount the satellite dish (which is quite small these days) in the correct orientation.

Due to the nature of the service, speeds may vary depending on the traffic within the network in your particular area. A fixed residential broadband service cannot be moved to another location without liaising with Starlink. Roaming services are available for those looking to provide connectivity on cars, campervans, boats, or move between locations themselves.

Starlink currently operates on a no-contract basis, so you have no tie to the service. If you wish to cancel at any time, however, you may have to return your equipment if you choose to cancel the service.

Very pleased with Starlink thus far. Getting 300 down and 80 up when connected via WiFi directly to the router.

For anyone rural with no real chance of Good fast internet Starlink is for you. I live an an area with poor service from openreach and no cable options. I am a gamer living in rural Scotland and have a prety consistant low 30s ping and very reliable internet service which is fast enough to allow the whole family to use the internet without any slow down for me. It is expensive but worth it if it is your only option. Would i swap it for fttp yes but only for the extra speed and reduced cost as it has been very reliable.

After being constantly let down by cable providers I switched to Starlink a year ago. The service is excellent and I have not had any outages. Average speed 100-200 Mbps. Average latency 20-30ms Great system and improving all the time as more satellites are deployed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nobody’s perfect, but Starlink comes close. I left Virgin due to poor service. Starlink speeds consistently >40bmps and often 150mbps. More than enough. Initial temporary setup took all of 5 minutes while I tested alongside Virgin. Permanent setup took half an hour to drill hole in the wall for cable and extended wall mount to get a clear view of the sky. You will need a clear view of the sky with no obstructions for it to work properly. Customer service excellent. I queried poor performance from the Starlink mesh router and they were able to test it from afar. They told me there was a fault in the router and sent me a new replacement for free plus £75 credit for a month free.
