Peterborough joins the 50% or more full fibre coverage club

A bit more Openreach FTTP in the Yaxley area of Peterborough added on Wednesday 4th and another chunk of CityFibre/Vodafone Gigafast on the 3rd November has pushed Peterborough in to the 50% FTTP coverage group.

The 50.16% full fibre coverage figure is made up of CityFibre, OFNL, Openreach, FibreNest and Hyperoptic and 1.31% of premises actually have a choice of two or more FTTP networks.

There are now 21 local authority areas with 50% or higher FTTP coverage, 65 with coverage of 25% and higher and 218 local authority areas with coverage above 10%. At the other end of the scale there are 32 areas with less than 2% FTTP coverage.

In Jan of this year Peterborough was voted the worst place to live in Britain for second year running so the good news about fibre coverage is not a good enough reason to move there. Yes, I do live in the area.

@zhango - an unexpected side benfit of lockdown is that we have all the excuses required to stay TF out of town :)

Gah! One end of my street has CityFibre. My end has yet to light up. The only way I knew it was going online was this site's UK map.

VF can't tell you when, they say contact CF. CF point you to Vodafone's postcode checker, which diverts you away without a message if you're not covered.

Somebody somewhere must have a schedule...

Hey Cessquill, have a read of this article here:

https://www.cityfibre.com/news/cityfibres-full-fibre-deployment-peterborough-reaches-halfway-point/

In it you'll find the the name of the Cityfibre manager for Peterborough.

Cityfibre use [email protected] for emails, put them together and send her an email to ask, that's what I did.

She wrote back to me pretty quickly when I asked about my gaff.

Good luck!

@simonbee - got a reply - I'm scheduled to go live in February - I live on the wrong side of the street unfortunately (over the road live now). Been following it since the first news hit around March '18, so a full three years of checking...

@Cessquill - that's good you got a reply, helps recalibrate expectations IME. She said my gaff should be going live just before or just after Christmas. Hoping before, likely after. Still doesn't stop me checking the gigafast website daily tho'!

@simonbee - yep, exactly. I'm still checking, even though I know it won't be available! Gives me a chance to get everything ready too.
