Exascale roll-out in Telford now on our maps

The weekend saw us add another full fibre network to our maps and checker, this time it was Exascale whose FTTP network is available to order in the Hortonwood and Trench Lock areas of Telford, Shropshire.

Services start at £32/m for a 80 Mbps down and 20 Mbps connection rising to £75/m for a 900 Mbps symmetric service. Activation is free currently and contract term is 18 months.

Shout out to ISPreview for talking with Exascale originally and we will try to remember to check back in a few months and see how the roll-out to Apley, Leegomery and Shawbirch is progressing.

Seem too expensive for 900 symmetric but don't understand why is 80/20 isn't symmetric (it fibre optic and 21st century)

I wouldn't sign up

It's marketing. For technie users who want fast uploads, force them to take a product with a higher download speed than they need.

For most users it's fine & you aren't supposed to be running a business server on a residential contract (I am using VPN at 40 D/10 U Mbits/s fine for WFH).

'Limit' is due to multiplexing with GPON & variants https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_optical_network.

If you are backing up to cloud (OMG no!) or for family the use case isn't that common yet so point to point is not comoditised yet for infrastructure (still expensive).

Commercial decision rather than marketing but indeed. Why would an ISP want a bunch of heavy 'techie' users on their lowest tier?
