New Chief Executive appointed at Ofcom

After a period of time with Jonathon Oxley serving as Interim Chief Executive a new person has been appointed by Ofcom and approved by the Secretary of State.

The new Chief Executive starts work in March 2020 and is Dame Melanie Dawes and is currently chairing the Civil Service People Board, leading workforce strategies across all government departments. Her career started with 15 years as an economist and has also served on the board of HMRC as Head of Business Tax and held a non-exec role at Which?

Ofcom plays a crucial role in ensuring that people and businesses across the UK get the best from their communications services. It’s a great privilege to be appointed as Chief Executive at a time of significant change in the sectors Ofcom regulates.

It is far to early to get any idea of what impact the new Ofcom boss will have, particularly as they have been appointed from outside industries that Ofcom regulates e.g. TV, broadband, Internet.

We look forward to working more with Ofcom and sharing what insights we have that may not show up in the numerous consumer studies and trends within the data we hold that is not always obvious from the various statistics we publish each month.
