November 2019 update on broadband availability across the UK, nations and regions

Another month has passed by and unfortunately no-one has managed to mobilise a secret army to build FTTP to a few million premises, but the many announcements of a bit here and a bit there is starting to add up, so the many positive change figure every month now is in the full fibre columns.

The pace of the FTTP roll-out is best illustrated by looking at the figure we reported on 7th December 2018, which was a UK figure of 5.34% and in December 2017 it was a measly 3.16%. The full fibre figure for the UK is 10.48% and that does take into account that some providers are overlapping each other, i.e. overlaps are only counted as 1 premises passed (overlapping is most common on new build developments).

We would normally at this point of the quarterly cycle for ONS postcode dataset releases have started the integration of the next batch of three months of new postcodes, but we are holding back until after the General Election on Thursday 12th December. This delay of a week or two on starting our next 6 weeks of new build integration is to avoid any boundary changes causing issues and ensuring we have stable datasets for any offline requests. With the high level of full fibre used in new build premises which should be in excess of 4 out of 5 premises in this quarter, this is around an additional 30,000 premises to the full fibre totals.

Should see the north east finally nudge up to a more respectable figure next year. Cityfibre and openreach are finally showing up on roadworks.org so its only a matter of time (probably well over a year but i can dream)
