Full fibre for businesses has been available for many years via leased lines but the bespoke nature of these means they are expensive and beyond what many firms can afford for connectivity. Now for businesses in The Shambles area of York that has changed.

FACTCO has rolled out a full fibre network and the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme should mean installation is free for qualifying business (or residential users).

We’re committed to future-proofing our communities and boosting the economy by delivering world-class, gigabit-capable broadband to the whole of the UK. Nowhere is our ambition clearer than on The Shambles, where I’m very pleased that our £67m Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme is providing York’s oldest street with the very fastest fibre connectivity around.

Matt Warman, Minister for Digital and Broadband

FACTCO are Liverpool based and usually roll-out to multiple occupancy buildings, details of the York roll-out are at factco.co.uk/yorkcity and while the small footprint of The Shambles will have had minimal impact on full fibre coverage levels in York if they can expand to other business areas of the City the numbers will start to add up and along with the other full fibre builds underway in York push the City a long way beyond its current 51.2% full fibre coverage (2nd place to Kingston Upon Hull with 98.6% full fibre coverage in the council area).
