18 more exchanges with G.fast partial fibre ultrafast option
It is almost a month since our last G.fast coverage round-up and we have 18 exchanges where G.fast has been added to our checker and maps for the first time, along with live pods on other exchanges that already had some pods.
- Ashby de la Zouch
- Bluebell Hill
- Cradley Heath
- Earl Shilton
- Long Buckby
- Taffs Well
- Weston Zoyland
This brings the total ultrafast G.fast footprint to 1,903,691 premises served from 7,963 pods. The distance drop off due to the high frequencies means that the number of premises connected to the green cabinets that have live pods is actually 3,174,298.
As usual our checker has been updated to reflect all the new pods and our maps have been updated though Earl Shilton and Taffs Well will not appear on the map until later today (25th September).
The future of G.fast was always going to be time limited but in the short term it will provide people within range something better than VDSL2 and even with an extensive full fibre roll-out it will give people access to something better where landlords refuse access for installing fibre. This ability for a landlord to refuse access may change if legislation appears but that is likely to be a couple of years away, this problem does not just affect tower blocks but can also impact low rise and your standard house.
