Ultrafast partial fibre available at another 14 exchanges

Since our last round-up on 13th August another 14 exchanges and 203 more live pods have been added to our search and checker systems. The latest 14 exchange areas to have one or more live pods with the ultrafast service available are:

  • Ashfield
  • Bishopston
  • Buckley
  • Burton on Trent
  • Congelton
  • Consett
  • Easington
  • Fareham
  • Moorhill
  • Radlett
  • Rossendale
  • South Woodham Ferriers
  • Stanley
  • Totton

The total number of premises within reach of the ultrafast service is 1,869,026 and a reminder that this figure does take into account the range limitations of, since the pods are attached to green street cabinets that actually serve some 3,105,726 premises.

Sky is latest big name provider to launch its (Ultrafast 1 & 2) products but the soft launch is still collecting registrations and we are yet to see a based speed test from the provider, but hopefully the registrations will not take too long to convert into actual orders.

The size of the overlap with the dominant ultrafast service which is Virgin Media cable broadband is apparent when you consider that while is available to 6.2% of UK premises the contribution to the ultrafast (over 100 Mbps) footprint is just over 2%.

The total number of premises does shift in the downwards direction some days, as on Fibre First exchanges where Openreach are rolling out FTTP we do see some premises in range for change to only having FTTP and VDSL2 options, but some 27,409 premises have the choice of FTTP, and VDSL2.
