The growing size of the Openreach Fibre First footprint
It is a month since our last look at how the splits for Openreach full fibre so it is time to look again and with a whole new batch of First First exchange areas announced the figures have changed.
Splits for Openreach FTTP and change in category since 12th July 2019:
- 452,996 premises via BDUK or other rural intervention (increase of 7,448)
- 586,503 premises in Fibre First areas (increase of 104,038)
- 224,761 premises via New Build since January 2016 (increase of 2,557)
- 149,299 premises via commercial/old roll-out (decrease of 27,010)
The reason for the drop in old commercial figures is that we had started to already see some FTTP roll-out in areas that were previously not designated as Fibre First areas but with the set of new Fibre First areas announced some exchanges have now changed category.
The increase in new build FTTP is small compared to the previous month because we are waiting on the next ONS postcode release that will tell us what the new postcodes are and then we can figure out what sort of broadband is available or not. The next ONS release is expected in early September.
