15 more exchanges with Gfast ultrafast broadband option
The G.fast footprint continues to grow and this means some 1,816,743 premises across the UK now have access to the 100 Mbps and faster service.
The 15 exchanges added since our last round up are:
- Culverhouse (did have 1 pod but now many more)
- Kings Langley
The total number of live pods we have spotted is at 6,690 spread across 395 exchange areas, which gives an average of 271 premises within reach on each, highlighting the generally dense urban nature where pods are appearing. Our checkers have all these pods in its system and Rothwell will appear on the maps within a few hours of this article being published.
The 1.8 million premises passed figure is still shy of the 2.02 million figure Openreach announced in its financials but we suspect that a significant reason for this gap is the number of pods that appear to be live via Openreach but the retailers are not selling services yet, i.e. waiting on upgrades at the handover exchange for backhaul. Also we expect to lag further on the G.fast figures than VDSL2 or FTTP simply because we are not pro-actively searching with resources concentrated on the various FTTP roll-outs, the G.fast additions are the result of people contacting us, spotting an unusual speed test in our daily browse of the results or just stumbling across one as part of our FTTP hunting activities.
