Peterborough is the third area of the UK with Vodafone Gigafast

For those living in the Dogsthorpe area of Peterborough the Vodafone Gigafast service is now available to order, with options from a symmetric 100 Mbps through to 900 Mbps.

The 1,300 or so premises in Peterborough follow on from the recent news we had spotted the first live areas of the Aberdeen roll-out too.

Clearly lots more areas of Peterborough to be built to, so we will be keeping an eye on developments but already this fairly small area has taken the area from 3.81% full fibre coverage to 5.33%.

One of the quirks of the Gigafast service is it appears you cannot move your existing household telephone number to the new service but will be given a new number. If you want to retain your existing number it means continuing to pay line rental to someone for the old copper line, or the modern alternative once the Gigafast service is up and running is to port the number to a VoIP service which are generally a lot cheaper than maintaining an old fashioned phone line.

Surely this is against rules laid down by OFGOM? If NTL (now VM) could manage this in 2005 when I switched from BT to cable then why not Vodaphone in 2018?
