UK Broadband Speed Test Results For October 2017

The clocks have gone back and November is upon us and that meant on the 1st our final processing of October speed test results was ran and now we can share the results for the fastest sixty providers and packages where we have enough results to share speeds.

Hyperoptic in October announced a change to its speed tiers so we expect this to maybe impact the November results when they are out, but it is likely that we may mis-identify new 150 Mbps customers as being slow Gigabit customers for a couple more months longer until it looks like the whole customer base has been moved across to the new speeds if they are. Plusnet has a less dramatic change underway too as its entry level VDSL2 customers will see the 1.9 Mbps cap on upload speeds removed starting in November and finally there are the speed upgrades for BT Infinity customers which are underway, the BT changes are the ones that may have an impact and this is that if we were to look at the split of Infinity 1 and Infinity 2 customers we expect to see the Infinity 2 sample grow in size.

I assume that the difference between BT Infinity 1 & 2 will disappear in future now that the speeds have been equalised.

In terms of product identification it is possible they will...

https://twitter.com/thinkbroadband/status/925793079071780864 was the October profile for BT customers, we will merge them once the bump at 52 Mbps vanishes or becomes so small most people will not spot it.

I'm wondering if BT Consumer might upgrade Infinity 2 customers to G.Fast where it's available and will provide higher speeds. There is, after all, now not much reason to pay the Infinity 2 premium.

While high speeds are good, what about reliability and stability?, i've seen more complaints on the VM forums from customers on connections 100Mb or higher than from those on 50-70Mb, some on the higher speed packages are getting less than 10% of speed that they paid for.

My previous provider Smallworld, had excellent reliability and service, any problems were dealt with quickly and their speeds were very stable, since VM took over Smallworld, there has been less reliability and their customer service is well below of what smallworld used to be.
