First G.fast products in our broadband provider listings

G.fast in the UK is not the same as G.fast in other countries as to ensure that the roll-out can go from almost zero in 2016 to ten million premises by 2020 Openreach is deploying the service by pods located at existing street cabinets that have a VDSL2 twin.

G.fast availability in Sheffield in October 2017
Map of where we know G.fast is available in Sheffield

The roll-out which is in a misty area of transitioning between trial and live service is available to some 42,500 premises based on our reckoning and Openreach has stated 100,000 premises passed, but as we are not going out of our way to find the G.fast pods that are live we expect our tracking to behind what the operator is stating. The technology filtering in our postcode and package search is not fully aware of G.fast just yet but the advanced filtering search will let you filter down to G.fast packages as of today.

Cerberus Networks have just been added to our extensive broadband provider pages and have the crown of being the first G.fast packages to appear, they also offer FTTC and FTTP products too.

Cerberus also are one of a handful of broadband providers retailing the fibre on demand service (FoD) from Openreach and with activation starting at £1200+VAT and a monthly cost of £165+VAT it is very much for those who have a clear need. NOTE: The activation fee is distance based and can be £10,000 or more in some circumstances and with a 36 month contract it is very much a business or home worker solution. While mentioning FoD the other providers worth mentioning are FluidOne and for those in Wales Spectrum Internet.

The TT page doesn't redirect for me with Chrome... it may be based on something other than browser, such as previous cookies.

Dropping to incognito means it works, the joy of when doing the checks for various packages when updating pricing means invariably have cookies set on multiple providers sites.

Will add them to the to-do list with a 'clear cookies' warning perhaps.

I am not entirely sure how accurate their checker is. Putting postcodes in Glasgow that have had a GFast pod attached for over a month now, over two in some cases and it says not available in your area on the TalkTalk page.

Lots of cabinets with pods attached that are not actually live yet, so no surprise there.

Feel free to investigate availability. We have BTs plans for hundreds of thousands of premises and will be expanding service to all areas where G.Fast is going to be available.

Practically every cabinet I see around North & South Cardiff has a pod now attached, but none of them show as live yet. I suspect a mass announcement that is at present embargoed to the public ( But seen by ISPs) is imminent. Maybe waiting for a software drop to support systems to cope with the expected demand or for ISPs to complete updating their systems to pass orders across to Openreach.

Be nice if some site like telecom-tariffs got hold of the gfast deployment plans.

But yeah, as @jumpmum says above, I've been seeing the pods regularly. The only active ones seem to be those that are already trialling for 6mths or so.
