Telewest to focus on existing customersThe Guardian has an interesting article from Charles Burdick who is the new managing director of Telewest. To quote the article, "In an effort to conserve cash Mr Burdick said Telewest would spend less chasing new customers and concentrate on persuading existing subscribers to buy broadband internet services."
This strategy appears to be working with 15,000 new customers on its 1Mbps service in the seven weeks after launching. None of the press releases indicate how many are new broadband customers rather than just upgrades. The focus on potential customers is the worry, since it means for those people who are within arms reach of a Telewest service, it appears that they are saying no more rollout - it costs too much.
