1,400 more homes on Scottish west coast to get superfast broadband
Home owners and businesses on Colonsay, Mull, Iona, Jura, Lismore, Islay, Luing and the penimsula of Craignish can now look forward to a superfast broadband solution capable of delivering an up to 50 Mbps download service appearing over the next 18 months.
The 1,400 premises that will enjoy better speeds are to be served by some 30 points of presence spread across the area by AB Internet who have just signed a contract with GigaPlus Argyll to provide a NGA compliant superfast broadband service to these communities on the west coast of Scotland.
"This is a pioneering project overcoming significant geographical, engineering and commercial challenges to bring superfast broadband to homes and businesses not only scattered across communities, but in this case, across islands.
Every day we are building on the growing broadband infrastructure, reaching further into our rural and remote areas. Every forward step supports the Scottish Government’s commitment to deliver first-rate connectivity in Scotland by 2020, ensuring we are a world class digital nation.Scotland’s Minister For Transport and Islands Derek Mackay
The project is aiming to provide an answer for areas that otherwise would miss out from the larger £410m Digital Scotland project. AB Internet provides a range of packages all the way from 2 Mbps at £14.99 per month to the full up to 50 Mbps (10 Mbps upload) service for £39.99.
