The first consumer Gigabit broadband service in Wales from Hyperoptic

  • Thursday, September 18, 2014 12:10 AM

Wales has been behind the curve on broadband speeds and with Hyperoptic rolling out its Gigabit service to the Hayes Apartments in central Cardiff there is at last a Gigabit option for consumers in Wales. While the roll-out is just a development sitting atop the St David's shopping centre at this time we are sure that more will follow.

"I have been counting down the days to getting hyperfast connectivity from Hyperoptic. It just knocks the socks off the competition and means that I don’t have to compromise my personal and professional online needs. One thing’s for sure - now that I have the fastest broadband in the UK, I won’t be moving elsewhere for a very long time!"

Marc Cole, Resident, Hayes Apartments

We are already seeing speed test results from residents, with existing ADSL2+ speeds of around 10 Mbps jumping to 500 Mbps and above for those who have ordered the Gigabit service.

While Gigabit services will have been available at considerable cost to businesses across Cardiff, the roll-out by Hyperoptic means the services are affordable for consumers. There will be little time for celebration at Hyperoptic as work on delivering the service at other developments will continue, both in Cardiff and the other areas where Hyperoptic is rolling out its service.

You don't have the fastest Marc, we do ;) but you are right, it knocks the socks off the copper offering the rest of the country have. Well done to Hyperoptic, going where telcos fear to tread, into the light age. Good luck to central Cardiff, get digging to meet them folks, they can give you 100 times better and cheaper connectivity than an old phone line can, and folk will be stuck on copper for infinity if we don't give them competition...

haha blow me!

I looked at a place there to buy today. This was not mentioned. I thought getting a parking space on P4 was a bonus but this is fantastic!

Sounds great! I will be very interested to see how much coverage they can manage. It's very difficult to see how a product like that can be affordable to the consumer yet provide enough revenue to satisfy investors and create a stable business!
