Line Rental Saver price increases at BT Consumer and TalkTalk
Alas price rise news time again, today the impact is on those looking to reduce the cost of the voice line rental by paying it as a single annual payment. In the past the savings have been significant at around £5 per month, but earlier in 2014 Sky dropped the offer completely.
- TalkTalk has increased the cost of its Line Rental Saver option from £141 to £172.20 (monthly equivalent was £11.75 rising to £14.35). Paying monthly is £15.95, but if you pay your bill the day it is issued you can save 15% (£2.39 on line rental).
- BT Consumer has increased its saver option from £141 to £159.84 (monthly equivalent was £11.75 and is now £13.32). Standard monthly line rental is £15.99 per month.
The price rise will not affect those who have already made use of the option to save some money, but they will notice it if at the end of the period they have paid they renew again.
The wholesale line rental pricing was set by Ofcom back in May 2014, and while the price for LLU services went up by £2.18 per year, for the basket of WLR and SMPF broadband the costs fell by £7.23 per year. This means that while full LLU remains cheaper, the difference with WLR+SMPF has been eroded and looks set to continue to do so.
