Another day another fibre cabinet goes live for in East Sussex
Hadlow Down has seen the speed boost from FTTC become reality rather than just a date on a calendar as the first of three cabinets has gone live on the exchange. Cabinet 1 is now live and taking orders.
The BT press release indicates that the cabinet serves some 220 homes and businesses and the other two cabinets should go live soon (these cabs serve premises in the area of postcodes TN22 4JE and TN22 4HS). Using our usual method for estimating coverage at superfast speeds (faster than 24 Mbps) the Hadlow Down exchange is one of the lower performing ones, with around 60% likely to get superfast type broadband speeds from FTTC.
While many will complain about the spending of public money to produce such a result, with speeds reported by people of 0.2 Mbps to 10 Mbps in the exchange area currently the increases will still be welcomed by many. In terms of the national aim 90% of households getting superfast broadband, it must be remembered that is a national target, so the areas like this get smoothed out by the overall statistics by those exchange areas that have much better concentrations near the cabinet.
