New offers from Plusnet and Sky
Offers for two providers have changed today, PlusNet has shortened the minimum contract term on its ADSL2+ service offers, and Sky is offering new customers taking broadband and telephone a £100 M&S voucher rather than their usual £25 voucher.
- PlusNet Unlimited ADSL2+ broadband and Home Phone, £2.99 per month for 12 months on a 12 month contract. Includes Weekend calls, with line rental at £14.50 per month. Offer ends 8th April 2014. Standard price is £9.99 per month.
- PlusNet Unlimited ADSL2+ broadband, Anytime Calls and Home Phone, £7.99 per month for 12 months on a 12 month contract. Line rental at £14.50 per month applies. Offer ends 8th April 2014. Standard price is £14.99 per month.
- Sky Unlimited Broadband with Sky Talk Weekends, £5 per month for 12 months. Offer includes for those not taking a TV package a £100 M&S voucher. 12 month contract. Line rental of £15.40 applies. Standard price is £10 per month. Voucher offer expires 2nd March 2014.
- Sky Fibre Unlimited Broadband with Sky Talk Weekends, up to 38 Mbps speeds, £10 per month for six months. Offer includes for those not taking a TV package a £100 M&S voucher. 12 month contract. Line rental of £15.40 applies. Standard price is £20 per month. Voucher offer expires 2nd March 2014.

and of course if large numbers of people in those areas negotiate better deals it makes those areas look even less attractive to investors.
The higher prices aren't a punishment. They are helping cover the extra costs of providing a service in that area. No-one likes to spend more than they have to but M1 exchange upgrades are hard enough to justify as it is.

Recently moved sister from Plusnet to BT - was quite shocked at the customer service from them when asking for a MAC code. Will never go back.
@AndrueC - and if you look at it the other way the lower prices in other areas are a benefit - it used to be that all areas were charged the higher price until Ofcom relaxed the rules in areas that had competition. Ofcom I believe are still partly responsible as they don't want low prices discouraging competition.
With PN if you live in a high cost area i.e. connected to a market1 or Mkt2014:A exchange then the costs leap to £9.99 per month plus line rental for the first 12 months and £16.99 per month plus line rental from month 13 if you don't negotiate a better deal with the COT.
