New offers from Plusnet and Sky

Offers for two providers have changed today, PlusNet has shortened the minimum contract term on its ADSL2+ service offers, and Sky is offering new customers taking broadband and telephone a £100 M&S voucher rather than their usual £25 voucher.

With PN if you live in a high cost area i.e. connected to a market1 or Mkt2014:A exchange then the costs leap to £9.99 per month plus line rental for the first 12 months and £16.99 per month plus line rental from month 13 if you don't negotiate a better deal with the COT.

and of course if large numbers of people in those areas negotiate better deals it makes those areas look even less attractive to investors.

The higher prices aren't a punishment. They are helping cover the extra costs of providing a service in that area. No-one likes to spend more than they have to but M1 exchange upgrades are hard enough to justify as it is.

Just sayin'

Recently moved sister from Plusnet to BT - was quite shocked at the customer service from them when asking for a MAC code. Will never go back.

@AndrueC - and if you look at it the other way the lower prices in other areas are a benefit - it used to be that all areas were charged the higher price until Ofcom relaxed the rules in areas that had competition. Ofcom I believe are still partly responsible as they don't want low prices discouraging competition.
