Leicestershire County Council publishes first map for broadband project

With the postcode lottery of broadband across the UK, information for the public is crucial and Leicestershire County Council who signed their contract with BT in August has published a map to give a rough idea of the areas that will be served.

The map published on the 25th shows where commercial deployment is expected by 2016, and then where the plans is to deliver an improved service by the end of March 2016. The map also indicates the areas that would be covered by further investment from 2016 to 2018 pending funding from the County Council, Government and District Councils.

Further more detailed maps are to be expected as the project planning progresses, with the first exchanges areas announced in the New year and a new map for spring 2014, with more detail as the phases progress.

In Kirby Muxloe we are bombarded with mail promotions from BT telling us we can get fibre optic broadband. However, only a fraction of the village is actually connected and BT have "no plans" to connect the rest of us. Why not?
