Mobile signal arrives in Weaverthorpe

Welcome to the mobile phone revolution for residents and businesses of Weaverthorpe in North Yorkshire. As part of the £150m investment by the Government in mobile masts to improve voice and data coverage the village now has a mobile mast to provide coverage in the area and based on the comments from the major mobile operators we presume all four networks are available.

"“The UK has one of the strongest and most competitive communications markets in the world, and this initiative will make that global position even stronger. This boost to connectivity will bring added social and economic benefits to Weaverthorpe and communities across the country, and we’re pleased to be supporting this unique and strategic partnership between government and the telecoms sector."

Olaf Swantee, EE CEO

Arqiva won the contract to provide the mast infrastructure back in May 2013, with the Government money providing the capital funding, and the operators covering their own costs for the next 20 years.

Weaverthorpe while not winning any prizes for its fixed line broadband speeds does have people posting speed test results up to 4.5 Mbps

Lucky Weaverthorpe. Down here in deepest Wiltshire we have no mobile signal, very poor broadband coverage. If you live on tip of a hill, no problem, but most people live in valleys here. Until satellite TV arrived we had to get our signal from the Isle of Wight and many local had no TV coverage as they were too low.

I live in the next village along called Foxhalls and can confirm that EE is providing 4G to this area. from the mast at the top of the hill. Average speed tests on my Iphone 5s are running around the 18meg down and about 15up. I would think that less 500 people are covered by this mast means im getting all to my self :)
