Virgin Media and BT sign deal bringing BT Sport to cable TV packages
Virgin Media TV customers may have had to wait a few days longer, but the wholesale agreement bringing BT Sport and the return of ESPN to Virgin Media cable TV packages has been signed just days before the start of the Premier League season when Liverpool play Stoke.
Virgin Media cable TV customers with a XL TV package (this includes those with Premiere and VIP bundles) will get access to BT Sport 1 & 2 and ESPN in HD for free. This is in addition to the Sky Sports channels, that these customers get access to. The Virgin TV Anywhere service will also carry the new channels so people can walk around the supermarket on a Saturday afternoon without missing a live moment of play.
"I am delighted we have signed a deal with Virgin Media that increases the audience for BT Sport to around three million homes overnight. BT is rewarding its loyal customers with free sport and it is great to see Virgin Media immediately making BT Sport available to so many of their customers.
BT has made a large investment in BT Sport and this is an important commercial agreement for us that recognises the excellence of the channels. We are keen to make our services as widely available as possible and to do so via wholesale arrangements. We are doing this with Sport."Marc Watson, BT TV chief executive
For those Virgin Media customers who do not have an XL bundle, the channels are available by upgrading their TV package, or subscribing to the BT Sport package for £15 per month.
