Cornish broadband project hits 75% milestone
Superfast Cornwall could be seen as an example of what is possible with a mixture of FTTC and FTTP technologies from BT, certainly by starting ahead of the BDUK projects it is paving the way and is often the area coming up with solutions to problems that will appear around the UK as the BDUK projects seriously get underway.
The project is far from complete but with 75% of premises in Cornwall now having access to a FTTC or FTTP based connection (199,000 premises) the coverage is impressive and above the UK average. There are 26,000 people subscribing to a superfast service on the new network but there is still a long way to go to reach the take-up levels of old fashioned ADSL but this will improve in time.
The coverage target for Cornwall was revised earlier this year up to 95% from an original figure of 80%.
