Telefonica UK in ten year deal with BT Wholesale
Telefonica UK appears to be taking a dual pronged approach to expansion of its data network for the forthcoming roll-out of 4G data services. BT Wholesale and O2 have announced the signing of a ten year deal to construct a high capacity transmission network, when just last week they also figured in the Virgin Media financial results for another ten year deal.
Many are hoping that once several 4G operators are up and running in the UK that the price will come down, particularly the cost per GB of data. To some extent with the 3G network the problem has been managing capacity over the mobile segment, hence data was a high cost commodity, with the efficiencies of 4G hopefully the price per GB will tend towards the cost of fixed broadband packages. Well that is the hope anyway.
