Vonage and Gigaclear in partnership deal
Gigaclear whose FTTP services start at £37 per month, for a 10 Mbps with burst to Gigabit product uses full fibre optic cabling into the home and with symmetric capacity is ideal for use with VoIP and video calls. The fibre operator has announced a partnership with Vonage that will get Gigaclear customers unlimited UK calls for £5.99 per month, this means that those with FTTP installed can ditch the copper telephone line at last, saving between £9.50 and £15.50 for the basic line rental, and potentially another £5 per month for an unlimited calls package.
We are constantly looking for ways to provide additional value to our customers. This partnership with Vonage is an example of that. Up to fifty per cent of existing Gigaclear customers already use Vonage to reduce their monthly communications costs and take advantage of the additional call features Vonage offers once they have reliable, ultrafast broadband. We wanted to make it easier and cheaper for new customers to do so too.Gigaclear chief executive, Matthew Hare
To give a comparison, BT Infinity 1 (up to 38 Mbps down, and up to 9.5 Mbps upload) with a 40GB a month usage allowance is £33.90 once you include line rental (paid 12 months in advance) and add unlimited calls. BT Infinity 2 which is unlimited and depending on distance from the cabinet may offer speeds of up to 78 Mbps down and up to 19 Mbps works out at £41.90 a month once outside any introductory offers.
Update 2:30pm We have heard back from Gigaclear, and the main advantage of the partnership is that people signing up via Gigaclear will save the £9.99 standard activation fee that Vonage charge. Other additional call plans are available, eg. a plan giving unlimited calls to UK, US and Canada is £7.99 a month. If you are considering signing up do check the other possibly fees, which include £23.99 if you disconnect service within the first 12 months, and a rebate recovery fee of £39.99 if you cancel after the money back guarantee period and within 90 days of service activation.
