Is more innovation on the way from Hyperoptic?

While Hyperoptic may have a relatively small footprint in terms of coverage, but they are at the leading edge of getting ultra fast broadband into apartments in the UK. The Fibre to the building architecture (FTTB) they use is what underpins some of the aggressive roll-outs in other European countries.

Today has the firm announcing a new member of the team, Darren Shenkin who joins Hyperoptic having previously worked as Head of TV at Plusnet and Head of Propositions for BT Vision.

"Joining Hyperoptic is a phenomenal opportunity for me to make a stamp on the next big UK ISP. I am really impressed by the company and its core 1 Gig product. Having a 1 Gig platform means that there is scope to develop some really ground-breaking propositions – watch this space!"

Darren Shenkin, Director of Products and Propositions, Hyperoptic

With TV and video content often being the key driver for many consumers seeking better broadband services, this appointment may hint at plans for expansion by Hyperoptic, perhaps expanding beyond just providing a broadband and telephone connection to TV content delivery. If Hyperoptic can utilise its network to deliver a TV service that is attractive price wise and utilises their fast network to delivery better quality than existing Freeview and satellite services it could convince many more landlords to join the fibre revolution.

They will start to run short of IPv4s soon. They only have 2 /21's.

As they are Copper in the building I would imagine it will be challenging. No RFoG capability.

Catchup or VoD maybe, but I would suggest broadcast will have to be Free-view / Sat.

Plenty of OTT boxes out there that can do all this though already if the BB is in place.

Also some Open source Free-to-air solutions.

There will have to be 'unique' content. Video on demand and that is about to get V. competitive.

Hopefully, they have the idea of pioneering the 4K Video Rental. Massive headlines that will kick almost everyone else where it hurts!
