Awards season hits the broadband world

Broadband Genie using a mixture of customer surveys, judges and analysis of 50,000 speedtests that utilised our speedtest technology has awarded five accolades for 2013.

Best Broadband Provider 2013 Plusnet (based on consumer survey)
Best Bundled Broadband 2013 Sky (awarded by panel of judges)
Most Innovative Provider 2013 Hyperoptic (awarded by panel of judges)
Best Budget Provider 2013 Plusnet (awarded by panel of judges)
Fastest Broadband Provider 2013 Virgin Media (based on speedtest results)

Virgin Media measured an average 16.8 Mbps, with BT Retail following at 9.9 Mbps. The average speed across all providers being 9.3 Mbps which is a significant jump from the 4 Mbps measured at the last awards, representing the results of the Virgin Media speed upgrade programme and the growth in numbers of FTTC users. The average upload still lags the download by a large factor measuring only 1.48 Mbps.

"We really appreciate the accolade from Broadband Genie. Hyperoptic plans to continue to provide a beacon of light to residents and, in doing so, bring the UK to the top of the broadband speed league table."

Dana Tobak, Managing Director at Hyperoptic

Dana will be on a panel at the FTTH Council Europe conference which will focus on the fate of FTTH in the UK, alongside Dr Ranulf Scarborough, Jeremy Steventon-Barnes (both Superfast Cornwall - BT Group), Barry Forde (CEO B4RN) and Malcolm Corbett (CEO INCA) on 21st February 2013. For more details on the conference and a 20% discount code see here.

2012 surely? One can hardly have an accolade for 1/12th of the period awarded. Checking their site, it probably runs from Jan 2012 to Jan 2013, and they basically mis-name it for marketing purposes. No better than the ISPs themselves.

Fair play Plusnet. Never have reason to complain about your CS before during and after I've worked there.

When I get fibre in my area you will be my first choice.

Virgin obviously have higher top speeds but TBB speedtests should not be a measure of that. I run a Sky broadband test on many different sites and TBB always says the speed is half the speed all the other testing sites say. So although this probably would not change the results, it is worth noting.

Based on 'consumer survey' - Bet it wasn't this bunch of over 400

@professor973 - reading some of those reviews that you referenced, it is clear that most of the reviewers have absolutely no understanding of how broadband works -specifically how BT Openreach "engineers" impinge on ANY ISP service (other than Virgin cable).
Having been with HORRANGE in its various guises and AOL prior to joining Plusnet my experience is that Plusnet Customer Services are infinitely superior to both!!

Another well deserved award for Plusnet. I've been with them since June 2012 & on fibre since October. Absolutely no problems & superb customer support.
