NTL to launch 1Mbps service
In an article last week on FT.com, NTL announced that they will be launching a 1Mbps service to compete better with rivals Telewest and BT. Cable companies have an advantage over BT as delivering faster services through their coaxial cable network is much less expensive than over DSL and phone lines. The new service is expected to cost £49.99 for existing customers and £59.99 for new customers.
The problem with cable Internet is still that it is not available to a large proportion of the cable subscribers. Many ex-C&W franchises have been left out of the equation so BT's DSL service may be the only option or hope for many users in the near future. [seb]
