B4rn first 14 properties are live on rural fibre network

B4rn is continuing its roll-out of fibre to some of the most rural parts Lancashire, with the first 14 connections now live, and another 9 shortly to go live. More premises are connected but just waiting on all the elements in an area to be ready so they can go live.

For those in the area, it is worth highlighting that the option to purchase a foundation share for £1500, that entitles you to a free connection and a years service ends on 15th December 2012.

The first ground breaking for the project started at the end of March 2012, and while the original launch suggested many more homes would be live by the end of 2012, the exceptionally wet weather this year will not have helped a project that was crossing lots of open land. The projects own timeline shows that things are behind schedule, which had the highly optimistic target of 1322 properties connected by summer 2012.

The challenge of ducting, blowing the fibre and fusion splicing the fibre in the terrain that B4rn are operating should not be under estimated, and we are sure that those living in the area do not mind things taking a little longer, particularly as the area is pretty much at the bottom or close to the bottom of the list where BDUK projects will ever intervene.

What a fantastic achievement !!!

While I am sure those involved are a little disappointed with the number connected so far this in no way detracts from the fantastic effort that has gone into this. I have worked on a dozen major commercial roll-outs and have some idea what these 'Farmers' are up against and have immense respect for what they have achieved.

This project will continue to show what can be done within the community if people work together to a common goal.

Again Well Done !!!!

I wonder if there will be a revised project plan then ? Even with the bad weather which hasn't been constant lets be honest 14 out of 1300 is a serious shortfall
