Orbital wireless network gains second retail provider

With the focus on fibre based solutions, people often overlook the possibility of fixed wireless solutions to provide service to areas, and Vfast has quietly been doing this in Kent for some time. Vfast is a sister company to Orbital Net who operate a WiMax class network in Kent, that covers somewhere between 70% and 80% of the county.

Orbital Net has always provided the service on a wholesale basis, and today they have announced that Quickline Communications has signed up, allowing them to expand their retail offerings beyond their home area of Hull, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

"We are very happy to welcome Quickline Communications to Kent as they are currently limited to Hull, South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, I feel this move will provide residents of Kent, especially in rural area’s more choice and a wider range of services, Kent is a great place to live and as just got even better! Does anyone know if Orbital use the 5.8GHz unlicensed WiMax frequency? I thought UKBroadband held all the licenses for WiMax in the UK, so I assume they must

UKBroadband have some 3.x GHz licences, other bands both licensed and "light touch" are available.
