EU to commission study to benchmark parental controls

The EU is set to commission a study into parental controls with the aim of producing a benchmark, so that consumers and parents will have a better idea of what the various packages that are available will actually achieve. The tender has a duration of 36 months and a maximum value of €350,000.

Many parental control systems rely on American English definitions, which is obviously less than ideal for the many languages in use across Europe, and also there are many cultural differences which mean that content classification can result in over blocking or under blocking.

Hope they realise most parents can't set control the kids can't hack?

In before they find out it doesn't work at all and the kids are smarter than the parents and its all a futile effort but they will say "hey, lets just throw more cash at this bonfire it seems like a good idea, its not like we have a currency to save"
