BDUK boost Scottish share of broadband pot to £100.8 million

A re-evaluation of broadband funding means that an extra £32 million will be made available for Scotland it has been announced today. BDUK have undertaken a more detailed analysis of the requirements for Scotland and following this has decided to increase the total spend for the region to £100.8 million from the original £68.8 million announced in August 2011.

"Access to superfast broadband means Scottish businesses can expand, develop new markets and compete globally. It also allows local communities to access public services more quickly and efficiently online.

"Providing Scotland with high-speed broadband is essential for businesses to grow and to create the new jobs we need. That is why the UK government believes broadband is essential not only for everyday life, but also for the future economic success of Scotland and the UK."

Michael Moore, Scottish Secretary

The Scottish government were initially disappointed with the funding allocation made by BDUK, and spoke out publicly calling it unrealistic considering the expense required to enable broadband in some regions being far higher than this.

My Broadband from TAlkTalk today managed to reach 249Kbps Download and 328Kbps Upload!
There is a fault and my "Normal" Speed is approx 1700Kbps Download.
Pity all the money for improvemnets gets wasted on SE England's users!

Agreed scottie. the selfish baby known as London
gets everything, new wembly the olympics, and they expect sympathy from the rest of us during the london bombings. and then bailout their banks. that place deserves it riots overcrowding high prices and it's inner city crime. victim of your own success :) and my south london born father would probably agree.

I suggest you go back and do a GCSE in geography. I don't think Cumbria or Cornwall, or Derbyshire are in the South East :)

Dear creakycopperline and scottie4642 you may recall that the biggest bank failure was Royal Bank of Scotland, run by a Scott and headquartered in Edinburgh, it cost £45b in bailouts.

@ Creaky. So your saying London deserved the 7/7 bombings because the people using public transport that day we're taking the internets you should be getting today? get real.

ccl - your remarks about the bombings are an insult to those killed and injured, please apologise.

Lets use Creaky's shallow and less than cerebral jibes as a rationale for sympathy. The basis of which is essentially the victims of government policy...
BDUK is government policy, so we should have no sympathy for the victims of that policy... i.e. those who don't get access to funds or get SFBB...

Oh dear, your argument falls on it's face... As usual....

That's what you get for choosing TalkTalk.

OK, so hands up all of you who got richer from bailing out the banks. Nobody? No - one here that wasn't mega rich before anyway? Well just think of them having a good laugh at y'all bickering between yourselves whilst they count the free cash you gave them! BTW if they gambled and lost your money, hands up who won it? £100.8 million is small change to them so why not point your anger at the real culprits! Independence in Scotland is irrelevant if your talking about International Capitalists sucking us all dry.
