Another mobile operator announces a 4G trial

While the auction process drags on with the expectation that the auction will happen towards the end of 2012, some four years after its original date, we are seeing trials for 4G technology pop-up around the country. Three are the latest who will run a one month trial in the Thames Valley in March 2012, utilising the 2.6GHz spectrum around four mast locations in Maidenhead and Slough.

To have commercial operators squabbling over what it views as its companies own best interests is of no surprise, and while the Government and Ofcom are complaining about the delays this has caused to the auctions, one must wonder if the light touch approach generally adopted in these situations needs to be replaced with a much firmer stance.

"The rest of the sentence is bad as well" . . . it's called Ofcomitus, in which nothing turns out right.
