Unbundling of the local loop moves a step closer
LLU has moved a step closer this week with OFTEL's announcement that telcos will have unescorted access to BT exchanges in most cases. The Register reports that only in those exchanges where BT requires its own contractors to be escorted will telcos also require supervision.
El Reg quotes David Edmonds (Oftel chief) as saying: "Oftel has decided that approved staff working for an operator must be treated in exactly the same way as an approved contractor working for BT" and assuring that security will not be compromised. Bulldog Communications, one of the few companies left in the LLU process, welcomed the decision. [seb]
