Orange introduce new £5 per month broadband offering
Orange have revamped their broadband offerings to ensure they are offering the UK's lowest priced broadband deal, with a price reduction to just £5 a month (for Orange mobile customers) of their cheapest broadband product. The Orange 'Home Broadband & Calls' package offers up-to 20meg broadband with an unlimited usage allowance (although Orange perform traffic management) and a 12-month contract. You do need to take line rental from Orange however and this costs £12.75 a month. Before the price reduction, Orange used to charge £11.50 a month line rental, and £7.50 a month for the broadband and off-peak calls package, so this is a price drop of £1.25 once the line rental increase is taken into account.
With the Broadband & Anytime Calls package price staying the same, there is a price increase here of £1.25.
"Although financially times are tough, we believe that everyone should have access to the best value deals in the market, irrespective of where they live. That's why despite other providers raising the price of their overall packages, we're actually offering the best priced plans we can to our customers right across the nation."Sylvain Thevenot, (Director of Marketing & Propositions, Home) Orange
It will remain subject to debate whether Orange are actually the cheapest provider. Plusnet currently have a half-price deal on their Value broadband product for the first 12-months where it will cost only £3.24 per month, although in the long run, the Orange product continuing at £5 per month rather than £6.49 for Plusnet would work out better.
