TalkTalk release broadband and phone network statistics
TalkTalk have released some network statistics for June which detail how their customers use their network. TalkTalk operate their own local loop unbundled (LLU) network which is a mix of both full LLU including phone line services (around 67% of LLU customers) and shared LLU which only connects the broadband service to TalkTalk. In total, TalkTalk have over 86% of their 4.2 million broadband customers on their unbundled network with the remainder connecting using the BT Wholesale network.
The largest amount of customers TalkTalk saw online in June was 2.75 million people (around 65%), and these users created nearly 328 Gbps of traffic, with around 21% of this (70 Gbps) going to Google. This isn't the largest amount of data to one site however- when the Sony Playstation Network service was restored to the UK on the 2nd of June, TalkTalk customers downloaded over 35 terabytes (35,000 gigabytes) of data in just one day. The busiest times generally for Internet usage are Sunday, Monday and Tuesday evenings as people tend to be more likely to be at home on these nights. This varies a bit during the football season when people often watch the mid-week matches online.
In terms of telephone usage, Monday evening is consistently the highest usage with around 110 million minutes of calls being made, compared with only around 70 million on a Sunday. In total, this adds up to around 3 billion minutes of calls being made each month by TalkTalk customers.
