BE Broadband 8Meg package upgrades to 12Mbps
Be as one of the first providers to provide ADSL2+ products in the UK, is rejigging its 'bargain basement' product BE Value. The product was previously running as ADSL2+, but with an artificial 8Mbps cap on the product, now new users signing up will see this speed cap increased to 12Mbps. The upstream remains as it was with rate adaption giving speeds of up to 1.3Mbps. BE Value has a quirky monthly price of £13.79, which if taken with the cheapest BE voice line rental product, gives a price of £23.29.
It is worth pointing out that if you are already running an ADSL2+ product from another provider, and are thinking this will give you a speed boost, then as its the same technical standard speeds will be similar to what you get now (although some providers use Dynamic Line Management which means they have you on a profile that gives less than the full line speeds). For users on an ADSL product, as a general rule those benefiting most from a switch from ADSL to ADSL2+ modulation are those connecting at 6Mbps or faster. If you are an existing BE Value customer syncing at 8Meg (i.e. hitting current limit) then you may have the option to upgrade and get higher speeds, but a new contract will be required.
