Sky reach 1.955 million broadband customers
Sky broadband saw 163,000 net additions in the last quarter up to 31st December 2008, growing their total broadband subscriber base to 1.955 million. The total revenue for the Sky group increased by 6% year on year to £2,601 million with total product sales increasing by 7%.
Only 13% of Sky customers take a bundle of TV broadband and telephony, and receive increased savings due to this. Sky intend to focus 2009 on driving take up of Sky Talk with the Sky Broadband product. In the second half of 2009 Sky plan to deploy full unbundling which will include their own equipment in the telephone exchanges to handle telephone calls, and allow further cost savings.
"In a very challenging economic environment, we have delivered a great set of results by focusing on quality, value and service for our customers. Overall customer growth is up year on year and we are selling more products across the board, including record growth in Sky+HD.
"Good cost control has allowed us to turn our operational performance into very strong financial results, with 6% growth in revenue, 26% growth in operating profit and 34% growth in earnings per share.Jeremy Darroch, (Chief Executive) BSkyB
Sky are also trying to drive the take up of Sky+HD by reducing the box price to £49 from an average of £150 in the previous six months. With this will come 1,000 new jobs to support the growth. The Sky website has the full financial data.
