Tiscali UK accounts for 69% of Tiscali group revenue
The numbers game continues as broadband providers publish their financial reports. Tiscali has published its results for the first half of 2008 for the group which has two main bases of operation; Italy and the UK.
In the last 12 months some 288,000 ADSL customers have joined Tiscali UK, compared to just 74,000 in Italy. The UK total is now 1,838,000 which includes the various brands Tiscali has purchased over the years. Unbundled connections account for some 880,000 customers, but there is no breakdown on how many are fully unbundled versus shared unbundled. Tiscali TV (aka HomeChoice) does not get a mention in the results, apart from a product launch in Italy.
Interestingly the average revenue per customer for the UK stood at £22.80 (€29) per month and has been stable for the last year. The stability of this figure gives an insight into why providers are trying to get us to bundle our telephone and broadband services together--While broadband prices themselves are still falling year on year, the income from telephone calls can act to counter this although it is likely in the longer term that content, particularly broadcast television, will take over.
The proposed sale of Tiscali is still ongoing, and while negotiations may be going on behind the scenes, there are no signs of anything imminent and Tiscali appears to be continuing 'business as usual'.
