Viviane Reding interviewed by TelecomTV
News can take on a different slant based on the outlet it is appearing, so why not head on over to TelecomTV, where they have interviewed Viviane Reding the EU Commissioner for Information, Society & Media.
The video interview gives some background to the recent news about EU regulation of the telecommuncations markets across the EU. The UK is already fairly competitive but if a provider like Iliad who have pushed fibre broadband in France could be encouraged to the UK, there is the potential to upset the apple cart.
With the current state of the UK broadband and digital TV market there is scope for a company with enough capital behind it to target the areas where Virgin Media and existing unbundled providers are not, and with the right package/price combination possibly get a large chunk of the pie. Even in areas where Virgin Media provides a cable TV service, a new entrant, if they could undercut the existing pricing, would probably catch Virgin Media out. The real problem is does any provider across Europe have the funds available to extend its FTTH footprint to the UK?
