Carphone Warehouse pull out of Pipex bid

FT.com today reports that Carphone Warehouse has withdrawn from the bidding for Pipex, one of the larger players in the UK broadband market. Pipex announced intention to sell back in March, with a stock market value of £336m. BT is believed to be the remaining interested party, after BSkyB, Virgin Media, and now Carphone Warehouse have cooled to the idea.

Update: There seems to be some confusion with thisismoney.co.uk reporting that BT has pulled out.

However The Times yesterday says it thinks BT has pulled out, leaving CPW the only one still in.

Looks like we have to wait and see.

To be honest looking at tome of the other guys on the scene, BT would be good, they may not be special but they're better than some of the other names being banded about, as much as I hate BT!

no business is going to make an offer just prior to the agm report. Let's get the best worst price!!!

Pipex's only reasonable asset is its wimax licence. That gives a company a definate in for a "reasonable" price. Everything else will be sold.

This is the best news I've heard. I came over to Pipex Homecall after 6 months of torture from CPW TalkTalk and, although PHC may not be the greatest and fastest speed ISP in the world, their all-in package and customer service is better than TalkTalk.

All I can say is: "Phew!!!!"

Pipex must be a better isp than Orange, i was on unlimited 8 megs and sinse sept last year, my speed was 2.1, I only live 1/4 of a mile to from my local exchange,They cut off my broadband today without warning, after they had been giving me as a good jesture free broadband because of my speed issue since last sept, they could,nt resolve my speeed issue, so they took the cowards way out,
