Around 240 DSLAM's were isolated from the rest of the network due to a problem at a central computer centre, i.e. where the systems are managed from.
Service was restored to many DSLAM's within hours but some required a physical visit to reset the DSLAM, hence took longer. All DSLAM's affected by this outage have now been restored into service.
Ignite are looking carefully at their fault notification procedures to ensure that ISP's are not 'left in the dark' if a such potentially large outage occurs again. This means hopefully in future that once ISP's get wind of a large problem, they will be able to get some firm information, rather than having to piece all the little bits together.
