Broadband News

Community brings broadband to itself... has news that will be very welcome for people trying to get broadband access in the 50 square miles around Austwick near Settle.

The tiny communities of Austwick, Wharfe, Feizor, Lawkland, Eldroth, Keasden and their outlying farms have raised £14,000 towards getting themselves connected, and with a £32,000 Government grant have created a wireless mesh network.

Update 20th September 2005: A resident of Clapham in Yorkshire has pointed out that, this wireless scheme is not the only way that many people in the area can get broadband. Places like Austwick, Wharfe, Keasden amongst others are served by the Clapham exchange, and people may well be able to get an ADSL service, subject to the usual limits.
