AOL adds phishing protection to its packages

AOL has announced the launch of a major campaign against phishing. For those that don't know phishing is actually where someone for example is sent an email claiming to be from their bank, and this includes links that look genuine, but in fact direct you to a fake website, where sensitive information such as online banking passwords can be grabbed.

AOL is now limiting access to sites flagged as ones that attempt to phish information from people through its AOL client, in addition to the spam filtering already employed in the email packages. AOL users can help by reporting spam that does make it through filters, using the report spam feature built into the system. AOL is working with Cyota to continually improve the protection offered to consumers, a continuing developement cycle is important as those seeking to steal the information become ever more sophisticated.
